Three ways to inspire your child

Published on January 6, 2015

‘Inspiration’ is essential for people of all the ages. Inspiration means different to different people, but ultimately it is something that drives people towards a certain goal in their life that can be a short term or a long term goal. As a mom you can inspire your child in many ways in their day to day activities and help them achieve their smaller goals in life.

Though your child goes to preschool and is independent enough to do his/her things, your presence and involvement in their day to day activities will further boost their level of involvement.

As a mom, you can start doing the following things to start with,

1.Do things together:

It’s always easier to send children away on a trekking camp or to dance classes. But when you do something together, the emotional reward is higher. Your kids pick up your values and attitudes. Demarcate one weekend per month, or all weekends, for family activities. Quality time still means a lot.

2.Read inspirational books:

Read with, and encourage your children with motivational books like the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, or biographies of individuals they admire. There is all types of inspirational literature — books of quotations and biographies suitable for children of all ages.

3.Encourage specific traits:

Help children build on their strengths by encouraging good habits and attitudes. Instead of the standard, ‘Good job’ or ‘Congrats,’ a comment like, ‘Your painting looks beautiful because you spent so much time paying attention to detail,’ can help your child see what her strengths are, and encourage her to develop specific intelligence.
