In my head I hear a humming:
Summer, summer, summer is coming.
Soon we’re going to have lots of fun
With mom, dad and the little one.
Licking lollies, and playing in the sun
All we want is to have a good vacation!
This is what most of our children will be thinking with the holidays fast approaching. Parents are busy looking up summer camps and thinking of ways to keep the busy bees at work. Here are some ideas which can help you to bond with your kids at home as well during summer :
- Homemade Play Dough
Mixing, mashing, creating new things with play dough is something we all enjoy. Making play dough at home is a great way of keeping kids engaged for a long period of time.
All you need to do is mix some oil, water, cream and food coloring (of your choice) in a vessel and heat. Then, once it is warm, remove and add some flour. Knead it well and, store in an airtight container or a Ziploc bag ! - Teach them Botany
Take the kids to a park or a nearby garden. Pick some leaves and flowers. They can grind the flowers to make colors and use the leaves to create different impressions on paper with the floral colors. They will unknowingly learn the names of flowers, shapes etc. You can also tell them about seasonal flowers, region-specific flowers etc. and turn this into a great lesson. - Car-wash Party
When the heat is sweltering and there is lots of work to be done, getting the kids involved will make the checklist shorter and keep little hands busy. A car wash ‘party’ {smart moms will call it a PARTY} is like killing two birds with the same stone. - Summer Movies
The sound of Music, Lion King, Cinderella, Toy Story…the list is endless. A bowl of popcorn and fresh juice during those lazy afternoons is the easiest way to gain some ‘me’ time and peace. - Let THEM Plan
Visit the zoo, museum, planetarium or video game parlor – make the kids the boss. Let them search and plan a day trip with you. They will not only be unable to grumble about their choice, but will also realize the effort involved in thinking up an idea and executing it. Unconsciously, this will also teach them more about their city and the places there are to visit.
So, have a fun-filled vacation and a fabulous time! And don’t forget to explore the exciting Summer camp program from Firstcry Intellitots Preschool.
